Life Skills 101: The 8 Keys of Excellence
When it comes to gaining new life skills at our learning and life skills camps, it all begins here. The 8 Keys of Excellence provide a framework for success in life. Success in all aspects of life depends on you. Whether you are a parent or a student, you are the master of your world. You create the direction and outcome of your life, and that's the good news!
Integrity
Match your behavior with your values. Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say. Be sincere and real.
Failure Leads to Success
Learn from your mistakes. View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow and succeed.
Speak with Good Purpose
Speak honestly and kindly. Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.
This is It!
Make the most of every moment. Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude.
Commitment
Make your dreams happen. Take positive action. Follow your vision without wavering.
Ownership
Take responsibility for your actions. Be responsible for your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. “Own” the choices you make and the results that follow.
Flexibility
Be willing to do things differently. Recognize what's not working and be willing to change what you're doing to achieve your goal.
Balance
Live your best life. Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what's meaningful and important in your life. Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.
Exposure to the 8 Keys and to the broader life skills portion of the curriculum is one of the many aspects of our learning and life skills camps that make us unique among academic summer camps. Students are able to gain important new learning skills and with their newly-acquired life skills, they gain the confidence, motivation and interpersonal skills to apply them effectively in their lives.
Life Skills
Students who attend SuperCamp's learning and life skills camps are influenced by a combination of learning strategies and life skills. We have found the life skills component of our Quantum Learning methods are equally effective with students in elementary school, middle school and high school.
Virtually every camper at SuperCamp benefits in one way or another from the life skills curriculum. Some of the life skills areas we cover include:
- Our codes for personal excellence, the 8 Keys of Excellence, outlined above, which give campers a life skills roadmap for life
- Valuable communication skills to help convey needs and feelings in a positive manner
- Relationship and problem-solving techniques to help resolve conflicts; this is one of the key life skills that helps in dealing with interpersonal teen issues
- The value of "venturing out" of comfort zones
- The importance of Living Above the Line
- Goal-setting techniques - and how to break through the barriers that block success, which relates directly with pre-teen and teen motivation
At all of our learning and life skills programs, campers enter a uniquely positive environment. Teens, in particular, in our Senior Forum teen program and our college prep program feel safe to express themselves, explore who they are and connect with one another. A big part of this trust factor is the life skills curriculum that they experience during the camp. As a result, the teen life skills acquired by Senior Forum and Quantum U campers have extraordinary and long-lasting value.
