Educational Summer Camps

Our educational summer camps do so much more than develop students in the "3 R's." While we do upgrade campers' skills in reading effectiveness reading speed and reading comprehension, creating writing, and math problem-solving techniques, we provide them with valuable insight into how they learn and what they can do to maximize their learning potential.

The educators that have developed our educational summer camps know that it is very rare for a student to learn without encountering any stumbling blocks along the way. Learning sometimes takes a great deal of concentration and effort, and many mistakes are made before they reach the path of least resistance. Though it is impossible to predict all of the obstacles a student may encounter on the road to better grades, it helps to understand how their minds naturally approach these predicaments.

  SuperCamp’s educational summer camps

At SuperCamp's educational camps, students learn a very enlightening story to help them discover and understand their own learning styles: The story of Slim 'n' Bil. As the story goes, Slim and Bil were very special, very smart people - but in very different ways. They knew each other so well that they didn't bother to ask the question, "How smart are you?" but rather, "How are you smart?"

Slim and Bil became great friends the day they discovered that their combined names spelled out eight different ways that all people are smart. Enthusiastically, they realized that everyone has their own method of learning, and that once they understood this, the door of learning would opened wide for them. One of their many joint activities was to list the different learning methods. Slim 'n' Bil's story teaches students that most people share a kinship with one the following learning techniques:

Kids at educational summer camp
  • Spatial-Visual
  • Linguistic
  • Interpersonal
  • Musical
  • Naturalist
  • Bodily-Kinesthetic
  • Intrapersonal, and
  • Logical-Mathematical

As we explain to the campers in our Junior Forum educational camps and our Senior Forum educational summer programs, each one of these learning styles requires a different approach to learning. For example, a person with a Naturalist style of thinking looks for patterns and odd-one-out puzzles, while a Bodily-Kinesthetic learner may like to act things out, dance, or play other physical games to help them learn.

Some learning patterns, we tell our educational camp participants, are on opposite ends of the spectrum: an Interpersonal learner enjoys taking on challenges in groups, while an Intrapersonal learner prefers to create personal goals for themselves and check off each one as they are accomplished. Logical-Mathematical learners take pleasure in logic puzzles and are constantly looking for reasons or proof, while a Spatial-Visual learner sees problems in shapes and dimension. A Musical learner finds comfort in songs and rhyme. A Linguistic learner prefers words and story problems as a learning vehicle.

The point we make to students who attend our educational summer camps is the same point we make to teachers who we train in our Quantum Learning methods: no one learning style is better than another. It is vitally important that students understand how their minds work in order to choose the best approach to problem-solving for them. Each student has a strength that can be utilized and provide a unique perspective for others.

Understanding how the mind approaches problem-solving can have significant effects on a student's performance in school. Students will be able to comprehend easier, which may lead to better grades, and ultimately a better GPA when they don't have to work so hard at finding the best way to tackle their school work. Studying can be an easy task for any kind of learner when they utilize the customized style-specific techniques they learn at our educational camps.

Better grades are not the only thing that a student will gain when they gain an understanding of their personal learning style while attending SuperCamp's educational summer camps. Challenges outside of the classroom will become easier to manage, and students can take these skills with them into the work force after they graduate. By knowing how they can contribute to solving a problem, they will become valuable assets wherever they go, be it at work, with family, or with friends. So hooray for Slim 'n' Bil!
