Happy Holidays from SuperCamp

The holiday season is here, which means it’s time to rejoice, reflect and look ahead to an exciting New Year. At SuperCamp, we talk about having an “attitude of gratitude.” It’s a mindset that we encourage students to carry with them 365 days a year.

In addition to the material things they might be grateful for, we tell campers to think about the people who are important in their lives, the people who they value. Parents, believe it or not, family is right at the top of most kids’ lists.

So, why not use the holiday season as an “excuse” to tell your kids how grateful you are for them. It’s amazing how this attitude of gratitude can become contagious. Happy Holidays and best wishes in the New Year from all of us at SuperCamp!

This Is It!
This Is It! KeyThis Is It! is the fourth of our 8 Keys of Excellence and what a perfect Key for the New Year as we enter the time of year when so many make resoutions. This Is It! means making the most of every moment. It means focusing your attention on the present and giving each task your best effort.

This Key can make a big difference in the way we live our lives and in the way our sons and daughters approach school. It can make each day exciting, productive and fulfilling.

The key to making This Is It! work in one’s life is to make it a habit. First, you need to become conscious of when you’re not using it. When you catch yourself feeling bored or daydreaming about some past or future event, turn that moment around.

Another tool you can use is called reframing. This simply means looking at a negative task or situation from a different angle, or framing it differently. Instead of focusing on the task, focus on the outcome. Find the value in what you’re doing and focus on it.

Reframing can work very well for students by enabling them to shift their view from having to do homework, for example, to the end benefit – better grades on tests, a higher GPA or the great feeling of writing an “A” paper.

So, when you make something else “It,” you miss what’s going on around you in the moment. Don’t let that happen. Live in the present – make right now It!
