Reading Comprehension
More effective student reading skills is one of the most important learning skills we teach at SuperCamp. While SuperCamp is much more than a reading skills camp, the improved reading comprehension and reading speed students acquire at SuperCamp benefit our campers for years to come.
As we said, the reading skills camp portion of SuperCamp covers both reading comprehension and reading speed, as these two facets work together in our powerful Quantum Reading method.
Improved reading comprehension and increased reading speed help students complete their studying in less time and get higher grades. By using a combination of high interest level, highly focused concentration and specific reading comprehension and reading speed strategies, the new student reading skills capitalize on the brain's ability to grasp several words at once.
To many teens and kids reading is a chore, that's why we include reading comprehension and reading speed instruction at all SuperCamp program levels. At the start of the reading skills camp segment of SuperCamp, we measure each camper's reading speed and also come up with a reading comprehension score. When the campers complete the reading program, we measure their reading comprehension and reading speed again to see how much improvement they made.
Our reading summer camp area covers the following six steps: Preparation (starting with the right attitude, beliefs and commitment), Getting into State (techniques for preparing your mind for maximum receptivity), Eyes and Hands (methods for using the power of the eyes and using your hands to guide the eyes on the page), SuperScan (a way to quickly expose the eyes and brain to every page), Reading (focused skills to get what's needed from the reading) and Review (how to recap for optimal reading comprehension).
In our reading skills camp segment of SuperCamp, we underscore to campers how these improved reading comprehension and reading speed skills will help spark their curiosity. We encourage them to use these skills to explore their interests, discover new passions and find answers immediately rather than letting potentially big ideas slip away. In other words, we emphasize that enhanced reading comprehension and reading speed will help them in school and, just as importantly, it will open new doors to them in their lives away from school, too.
