Teen Leadership

SuperCamp Teen leadership training is a big part of all four of our teen summer programs: Senior Forum, Leadership Training Team, Leadership Forum and Quantum U.

Developing teen leadership skills is woven through the life skills portion of our curriculum, from powerful communication skills and conflict resolution techniques to every one of the 8 Keys of Excellence.

Teens are introduced to leadership skills in their first year of Senior Forum. Once students graduate from one year of Senior Forum, they are eligible to move into our summer leadership programs, beginning with Leadership Training Team. After participating in Leadership Training Team, a student can enroll the following year in Leadership Forum, which focuses on life skills, leadership skills, and communication skills.

The final step in the progression of our teen leadership programs is Quantum U. All students who are about to enter or are already in college can enroll in Quantum U. In other words, there is no prerequisite, so even students who have not attended Senior Forum or either of our teen leadership camps, can sign up for the 7-day Quantum U program.

As mentioned, the 8 Keys of Excellence are an important part of our teen leadership training. Not only do students attending SuperCamp learn the 8 Keys, but they see them modeled throughout our summer programs by the SuperCamp staff. Here are the 8 Keys, which, when applied by students, help them to develop effective leadership skills:

Integrity
Match your behavior with your values. Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say. Be sincere and real.

Failure Leads to Success
Learn from your mistakes. View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow and succeed.

Speak with Good Purpose
Speak honestly and kindly. Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.

This is It!
Make the most of every moment. Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude.

Commitment
Make your dreams happen. Take positive action. Follow your vision without wavering.

Ownership
Take responsibility for your actions. Be responsible for your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. “Own” the choices you make and the results that follow.

Flexibility
Be willing to do things differently. Recognize what's not working and be willing to change what you're doing to achieve your goal.

Balance
SuperCamp Live your best life. Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what's meaningful and important in your life. Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.

Another important aspect of developing teen leadership skills is gaining a willingness to move outside of one's personal comfort zone. We help students in this area throughout camp. One way is on Outdoor Adventure Day where campers are challenged with activities that will expand their comfort zones.

Yes, we spend an equal amount of time on teaching many new learning skills to our campers, but teen leadership, along with teen motivation, is a big part of the life skills training that takes place in our teen summer programs.
