I think high schools are starting to do this....way too late in the game, I think, without the kickback. I had to take my cell phone away from my daughter (age 13). She really got caught up, even though we waited till 7th grade to give her a phone (as we were concerned that the distraction may occur). Low and behold, she got it taken away from her despite our concern. She signed a contract--and broke it! Also, knowing that her father is an "Investigator" of all things, she still took that chance. She got so caught up that she was on it constantly, if she wasn't in school. I had to get mean for her to do her chores, when I spoke she was too occupied to listen, and of course wasn't present at all. I was hurt, embaraaced and shocked what I found out what she was doing on her phone. All the while keeping in mind that we are all not perfect and life must go on, no matter what. And of course I have to keep loving her.
What ever it is worth to all who read this... Technology failed to look at the cons of Social Media...this is where we as parents have to be smart and educate ourselves and do what works best for us and NOT SOCIETY! How do you get these teenagers to understand this---you can try.....but it's such a tough age. Just have to educate and pray that kids will make the rights decisions.
